The 6,700 metre Cefalù tunnel is the longest of the three tunnels planned to double the Cefalù/Ogliastrillo-Castelbuono railway line on the Palermo-Messina line. The new double-track line is almost entirely underground and has a total length of 12.3 kilometres. The project is a variant of the old railway. Once completed, it will provide a faster and more efficient connection between Cefalù and Punta Raisi airport.
