The Metro Line C in Rome was excavated with 4 EPB shields manufactered by Herrenchnecht for a total length of 2x95oom. The TBM drilled in a very urbanized area with the presence of several buildings:therefore the control of superficial settlements was of a paramount importance. 50.000 square meters of waterproofing membranes were used for the impermeabilization.
